Impact in Uncornered Cities

After creating proven change in Boston, Uncornered is growing a national movement to end street violence with our expansion to Providence and Kansas City.

Boston

In our founding city of Boston, the Uncornered model drastically reduced violence and shootings.

Over the years, our Core Influencer group in Boston has grown to 6 Leads and 81 Catalysts, creating a Network of over 350 individuals. Impact studies have shown that incidents of crime were three times less prevalent in neighborhoods where Uncornered Core Influencers are engaged (Bain & Company).

As a result, Boston shootings have decreased 40% in just 6 years, and in 2023, Boston had its lowest number of murders in over 20 years.

“I am pleased to support Uncornered. Their program model, which includes mentorship and financial support, has proven its effectiveness in reduced rates of recidivism, gang violence, and generational poverty.”

Kansas City

Over the past four years, Kansas City has seen its deadliest years on record. Begun as a pilot program in 2022 to address the growing number of shootings, we are working to expand our operations so Uncornered can reach its full potential to end street violence in Kansas City.

Our work contributed to a 22% reduction in shootings during the second half of 2023 in Kansas City. This included a 35% decrease in shootings over the summer, which is the largest reduction in shootings in a single quarter that Uncornered has ever seen.

As of January 2024, our group of Core Influencers has grown to 12 Leads and 114 Catalysts, creating a Network of over 400 individuals.

“I believe many of our residents engaged in violence in Kansas City want a way out… Through a decade of work (Uncornered) has proven that deep, on-the-street outreach to individuals most involved in violent activity works.”

– Quinton Lucas, Mayor, Kansas City

Providence

We are in the beginning stages of impactful work in Providence and have increased the number of Leads, Catalysts and our larger Network by more than 4x, enabling even greater impact across the city and creating the foundation of meaningful change.

In Providence, not one of the young people we work with has been involved in a shooting in the past year. In addition, nearly 85% of Catalysts engaged in prosocial activity in 2023, such as mental health, employment, and training.

“Uncornered has demonstrated results in supporting gang-involved young people to help them move from a life of violence and trauma onto a path of education. We are excited to support their bold, actionable work.”
